No peace!” “Don’t shoot us.””I can’t breathe!” In the controversial article “Why Black Lives Matter Isn’t What You Think” by Bryan Stascavage from the text America Now quotes “Rather, is the movement itself actually achieving anything positive?”  The author argues that the movement promotes violence towards police officers. I strongly believe that the Black Lives Matter movement has achieved a various amount of achievements in the recent years and has since been branched into college campuses and presidential campaigns. The exasperated cries of protesters from city to city drawed attention to the nation’s endemic police brutality. The movement first emerged from a twitter hashtag in 2013 as a response to the murders of two African American teenagers, Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown. Black Lives Matter has gained an enormous support from a number of Americans that were concerned that law enforcements were selectively biased against African Americans. The only way for people to be heard is through the media hoping they are listened to by those in a high places in the political system.    The language and politics of the Black Lives Matter movement has made a phenomenon amount global echoes.Protest has taken place in Germany, Britain, The Netherlands and Canada to expose what is called institutionalised racism within US police forces. The Black Lives Matter social justice movement has been recognized with a global peace prize. The Sydney Peace Foundation announced last week it will give Black Lives Matter its 2017 peace prize during a ceremony scheduled in November for Sydney. The award recognizes the work of the founding leaders of the social justice activist network, Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza and Opal Tometi. In announcing the award:This is the first time that a movement and not a person has been awarded the peace prize—a timely choice. Climate change is escalating fast, increasing inequality and racism are feeding divisiveness, and we are in the middle of the worst refugee crisis since World War II. Yet many establishment leaders across the world stick their heads in the sand or turn their backs on justice, fairness and equality. ( Sydney Peace Foundation)                                            Titre 2On the contrary, the organization has received a lot of backlash from the public in reference to the five police officers in the United States that were targeted during a Black Lives Matter protest in Dallas. The shooting was followed by the killing of Alton Sterling, an African American man, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana by police officers. The murders of police officers wasn’t in anyway promoted or related to Black Lives Matter but in fact was orchestrated by Micah Johnson, an African American who supports a hate group that has advocated violence against whites, called New Black Panther Party. Mr. Johnson in the middle of a standoff at the time between him and Dallas police officers, told negotiators that “he was upset about Black Lives Matter and about the recent police shootings. He was also upset at white people. He wanted to kill white people especially white police officers. The Black Lives Matter responded to the accusations of their involvement in the killings: “What we did last night was a peaceful protest,” said Dominique Alexander, who heads the Next Generation Action Network and helped organize the Dallas protest, told USA TODAY. “What we were doing as activists was pushing our government to do what was right to address the issues surrounding police brutality, so more innocent lives are not taken in America.”The epidemic and explicit discrimination against black people has to stop. According to The Washington Post, a database was launched to track fatal police shootings. It was found that of the 963 people that was shot and killed in 2016, 233 of them were black. A handful of examples of police treatment of black people are: In August 12 2017, a police dashcam footage showed an African American man Richard Hubbard the third, 25, was beaten during a traffic stop in the Cleveland suburb of Euclid, Ohio. Officer Michael Amiott can be seen repeatedly brutally assaulting Hubbard and slamming his head on the pavement. On April 10, 2017 footage from a cellphone was released to the public that shows Nania Cain, an African American being thrown to the ground and constantly punched in the face by an officer who claims Cain had allegedly jaywalked. Cain, 24, was initially charged with resisting arrest, but was released the next morning. The Sacramento police officer was placed on paid administrative leave. On January 3rd,2017 a cell phone video surfaced showed a police officer slamming a 15 year old black female to the floor in effort to stop a fight involving three fellow students.                                         Titre 3Officer Ruben De Los Santos was placed on paid administrative leave and unfortunately, did not face criminal charges prior to the assault. He resigned in March.                                            In North Miami, Florida on July 18,2016 Charles Kinsey, a behavioral therapist, was shot in the leg by a police officer, for attempting to help a young autistic white man. Jonathan Aledda, the officer, was fired for shooting the 47 year old.Philando Castile, 32, was fatally shot during a traffic stop in a St. Paul suburb, the aftermath of which was captured in a video by his girlfriend, the front seat passenger  and streamed live as the victim slumped against her. Their daughter sat in the back seat. In June, a jury found the Minnesota police officer, Jeronimo Yanez, not guilty of all charges, including second- degree manslaughter. A Dashboard camera video was released days later of the incident.     The main reason for Black Lives Matter is to expose institutionalised racism in US police forces. Institutional or systemic racism is a system, organization, school or business that makes decisions solely based on race. According to the American Civil Liberties Union, hidden bias can contribute to the racial differences perceived in the judicial system. The organization notes that Black people are more likely to be incarcerated for drug charges than Whites. Fear is a main factor that is deeply associated with non expressed racial reactions of the two different races against one another. A vast majority of Americans equate Black men with criminal activities and violence, even if they do not always acknowledge it. Young African American men in particular are subjects of stereotype, especially when wearing “ghetto” clothes. This assumption of the typical Black male can result in society viewing peaceful acts performed by African American males as being cruel and hostile, while viewing violent acts performed by White males as an mental health disorder or an accident.   Since the Black Lives Matter movement have surfaced it has gained another recognition by the man who ran the third world country himself, Barack Obama. Former President Barack Obama met with activists from the Black Lives Matter movement as well as law enforcements and community leaders to talk about the violence between black communities and police across the country on July 14,2016. One of the activist, DeRay Mckesson called the meeting with Obama productive and that the President was “incredibly                                         Titre 4solution oriented in this conversation and pushed to challenged people to think about the concrete things that both the administration could do and law enforcement and activists could do to make sure that we address the issue of police violence head on and also that our communities are safe.” After the meeting was held, Obama defended the movement from criticism:”When people say ‘Black Lives Matter,’ that doesn’t mean blue lives don’t matter; it just means all lives matter, but right now the big concern is the fact that the data shows black folks are more vulnerable to these kinds of incidents.” Through this statement Mr. Barack Obama clearly supports the movement. All things considered, the Black Lives Matter movement is guaranteed as a group of peaceful protesters that encourages unity and peace and has accomplished many positive things. Activists are standing up for the black lives lost across the country, speaking out against violence and asking for peace is what are preached into the crowds. We the people are tired of the senseless killings of innocent African American people at the hands of state. These so called “authority” figures misuse their power and get away with crime tells us that our justice system is messed up in more ways than one. How can citizens feel safe, if they fear the people who are suppose to protect them? Every black American is forced to deal with the reality every day that they could be next. Eric Garner. Michael Brown. Alton Sterling. Sandra Bland. Philando Castle and the list goes on. Each black man or woman died at the hands of police.`                                            Titre 5        Work CitedWikipedia , “Black Lives Matter”https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Lives_Matter
