When first commissioned in 2004, the borehole cooling system was licenced for an annual abstraction of 132000 m3, the effluent warmed  being discharged to the River Thames. In late 2006, it was determined by the system designer (Max Fordham LLP) that abstraction might need to be increased to a maximum of 257,000 m3 A-1 to satisfy the projected cooling requirements. In contrast to when the borehole cooling system was first commissioned, the environment agency advised in 2006 that the chalk aquifer underlying London was licensed to capacity and that the RFH would not be permitted to increase net abstraction above the existing 1,320,000 m3 A-1. In view of this, and following agreement with the environment agency, the RFH reconfigured its borehole cooling system, such that total annual abstraction could be increased to 257,000 M3 with the excess water (above the license limit of 132,000 M3) beingdischarged to back into the chalk aquifer.

As humidity in the air is so important to the health of its occupants, as temperature inside the auditorium is specifically 2x 700KW where it needs to be constant at 22 grades with 45% humidity. 

The reason being the equipment maintenance. The auditorium needs to be critically kept at a low temperature level, in order to keep the noise down as well as the major reason the main piano on the stage. In case the humidity level and the temperature should go any higher, the equiptment, mainly the piano, would slowly go out of tune, further resulting in a sound board crack.
