MOTIVATION

The researcher has a strong
inclination towards Cinema. In fact, the researcher’s curiosity with the
relationship between the worlds of architecture and film was first evoked by
epic movie, The Shining from one of
the most influential directors of cinematic history – Stanley Kubrick.

BACKGROUND

Indian Cinema
history can be traced back to 1896. Three major film centers were developed in
India, Bombay, Calcutta and Madras. Music became as an important ingredient in
Indian Cinema.

Dhandiraj
Govind Phadke, famously known as Dadasaheb Phadke inaugurated Indian Cinema
with Raja Harishchandra in 1913, India’s first feature film to be shot with an
entirely Indian crew.

Similarly, historical epics,
legendary romances and filmed biographies, the other principal genres that
emerged before the birth of Indian Talkies, grew in frequency and strength in
1930s and 1940s. In such a way, the film industry in India started expanding
and hence the MINISTRY OF INFORMATION AND BROADCASTNG decided to set up FTII
(Film and Television Institute of India) in 1960.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

It has been
observed that, there is lack of film schools in India, despite India is the
largest producer of films. There are only 3 government institutes in India from
which one is Drama School and other two are Film Institutes.

1.     National
School of Drama, New-Delhi.

2.     Film
and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune.

3.     Satyajit
Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata.

AIM

Devising a program that alleviates it
physically, functionally and socially, that gives a new rise to architectural
typology. Physically through form, functionally through program and socially
through space. Ultimately developing a design that will try to be worthy to
meet the latest needs, requirements and creates spaces which are basic needs in
such an academic school.
